KyungHee Campus briefing

 

As you can see in this picture, Kyunghee university global campus is advancing for the vision that the new believers become spiritually multiplying leaders that build MOVEMENTS EVERYWHERE.

First of all, let me talk about the size of the campus and human resources. Kyunghee university is consisted of 12,000(twelve thousand) students and among them 2,000 are foreign students. The Kyunghee CCC has about 120(One Hundred twenty) students with 11(Eleven) CMD groups, 40(forty) students leader , 8 STINTs, 2 staff members which is me and my wife. Also two new staffs arrived in this month who will continue KyungHee campus ministry and there is one more staff who is being trained at GCTC.

Our ministry can be divided into two categories. One is the CAMPUS ministry and the other is COMMUNITY ministry. The key words for these ministries are Life-change and Sentness. The people who have experienced their life-change are called to live their lives to achieve Movements Everywhere wherever they belong regardless their major, family, church etc.

Let me talk about campus ministry, we are comprised of 11 CMD groups. These 11 groups exist for 9 colleges and 53 majors. Our goal is to accomplish building at least one CMD group at every major, the reason for the CMD group’s being is the gospelization of the department they are involved in. There are already CMD groups and members in each major but, there are 6 more majors where no groups or members exist. So the CMD group members who are in charge of the corresponding college are praying and are concerned about the gospelization of the college which does not have a CMD group. (Example – Elite CMD - college of international studies, fine arts, engineering[brothers], Farmer CMD - College of Life Science, foreign language [sisters])

My region uses the term “CMD” to express small group, so I guess I need to further explaination about this concept. The CMD stands for Community of Multiplying Disciples. It could be easier to say that it is a group of disciples who is willing to go out and raise many disciples and encourage their disciples to do the same just like Jesus did. Also, it would be nice to explain about the background story of how the CMD came into use. The international CCC Global Church Movement(GCM) team prayed for 5,000,000,000(five billion) who do not believe to come back to the LORD, and so they dreamed about building a group of 10 people, capable of reproducing, and planned to assign them 1,000 people to take cake of. So, to raise 5 billion disciples, they thought that 5million of such groups would be needed.

They named these groups the CMD(Community of Multiplying Disciples). So, the combination of our small groups and this concept of CMD is the CMD that we currently adopted.

 

So, Kyunghee university CCC has 11 CMDs in separate colleges for the 12,000 students and are progressing to achieve gospelization of the campus by building CMD groups in every major within the college.

But, as a member of CMDs in colleges and departments, the very first thing that we have to do is to go up to them and love them just like Jesus did. When we pour them with God's love and serve them, God will open their mind and change them, just like when a missionary goes to a new nation he or she tries to learn the new language, culture, every aspect of new life and becomes their friend. We are also missionaries sent to the people around us. So, my point of view is that we go deeply into every aspect of the students’s lives. We need to approach them just like the missionary do. we have to deeply love them, to understand their worries and problems. The CMD doesn’t start at the place we gather, but it start at the place where the students belong. We spread the word of Jesus's love at the places where they are belonging. And whitin the CMD, we share good strategies and visions to accomplish it. That is why Life-Change is so important. At the end of their lives, they will be able to live the sentness's life faithfully.

 

Next, I want to share about the community ministry. The community ministry exists in diverse forms. It exists for not only for the campus but also for the local churches and cities. The soccer mission, guitar classes, mission for the foreigners, youth mentoring are some of the mission works that the students are specialized in or that they like or that they want to do. Moreover, they all are a voluntary community gathering for the campus, local societies and churches. For one reason or another these meetings also aim for us to go to the non-believer, and to widen the influence of the christians.

 

For example, one of our CMD groups, all members are taking part in the mentoring. As a result, this CMD group volunteered to go to the one middle school in Suwon. They help the life of middle school students who are having difficulties in their lives. As they do this, they also invite the non-believer friends to this mentoring program, so they have opportunity to share the gospel. In such way, they naturally introduce Jesus to their friends and they give hopes to the teenagers. The starting point is the gospel.

 

It is same for the soccer mission. For instance, we participate to the university club's soccer tournament to get a chance to talk about gospel after every match. In order to talk about the good news we need to win the game. The students learn through this tournament. They make confessions that the LORD is guiding their victory to give them the opportunities to talk about the gospel. Before, they played soccer because they simply enjoyed playing but, now their reason for playing soccer is clear and they admit that the LORD is the master of the match and leads their victories.

 

Thus, community groups are now experiencing God's work in their daily lives and they function in a way to reach to the people who do not believe yet.

 

For this reason, I held various meetings. One of them is the mother's pray meeting. I am holding this meeting with the hope that later on, not only the mothers who believe but also the mothers who do not believe would come. So that they will gather to talk with each other and naturally, this meeting will be converted to a gathering which spreads the words of Jesus. Also, meeting with local church's teens, missionary work for the foreigners are the gatherings that pursue the same vision.

 

Kyunghee global campus is taking parts in various areas. Widespread to the world, we are not limited to Korea. We have partnership with the U.S AIA to aid the athletes, and when starting the pioneering missionary work in Mexico and Democratic republic of the Congo. Our students were the key members. Moreover, we are being challenged and encouraged to take part more in local churches and cities. Both CAMPUS and COMMUNITY areas of the life are being changed and thanks to the members who are willing to take their vocations for the sentness, I expect for them to handle more of God's work later on.
